AI Gets a Desk in Promo

Trelium is building AI agents that do more than answer questions—they enter orders, reconcile invoices and move work through the systems the promotional-products industry already uses.

The promotional-products business runs on creativity, relationships and an extraordinary amount of copying and pasting. Purchase orders arrive as PDFs. Quotes live in emails. Artwork moves between folders. Someone checks the ERP, someone updates the CRM and someone answers, once again, “Where is my order?” Trelium wants to give that work to AI.

Its agents connect with industry and business platforms including commonsku, SAGE, ASI/ESP, PromoStandards, Printavo, ShopWorks, QuickBooks and supplier systems. Rather than replacing an ERP, Trelium acts as an execution layer across it—reading unstructured emails and documents, extracting information, updating records and escalating exceptions for human review.

For distributors and suppliers, the attraction is obvious. An agent can enter a multi-line purchase order, compare an invoice against its PO, prepare an order-status response or move approved artwork into production. The objective is not necessarily fewer people; it is fewer people spending their day re-keying information between systems.

The Upside

Trelium could shorten response times, reduce repetitive data entry and make smaller teams considerably more productive. Because its agents work across existing platforms—including applications without conventional APIs—it may also help businesses automate processes that have resisted simpler app-to-app integrations.

More importantly, it applies AI to the unglamorous middle of the business. Not another product ideation tool. Not another chatbot. Actual operational work.

The Watchouts

An AI agent with access to orders, customer records, invoices and email also carries meaningful responsibility. Poor source data can become faster poor data, while an incorrect quantity, price or ship date can have consequences well beyond an awkward sentence generated by a chatbot.

Businesses should therefore insist on limited permissions, approval thresholds, audit trails and clear human ownership of exceptions. Trelium says its workflows include audit logs and human review gates, although its SOC 2 Type II audit is currently described as in progress, rather than completed.

There is also a strategic risk: automating a bad process does not make it a good one. Before assigning an AI agent, companies still need to decide which steps are necessary, which decisions require judgment and where the customer benefits.

The Fabulist Take

The most valuable AI in promo may not be the one dreaming up the next product. It may be the one quietly entering the order correctly.

Trelium offers a compelling glimpse of an industry where people spend less time moving information and more time applying experience, taste and judgment. The promise is considerable—but the smartest starting point is one repetitive, measurable, low-risk workflow with a human firmly in the loop.
